Alexey V. Melnik is a distinguished scientist, CEO, and co-founder of Arome Science. With a strong foundation in Analytical Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry, he received his BS and MS degrees from Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia.
Alexey V. Melnik’s research focuses on integrating mass spectrometry and microbial sequencing data to explore crucial biological questions related to host-host and host-microbe interactions. His research interests span Analytical Chemistry, Microbiome studies, and Systems Biology. He is particularly interested in understanding the microbiome’s role in human health and disease.
Before co-founding Arome Science, Alexey worked as a research scientist with the Aksenov Research Group at UCONN and later joined Pieter Dorrestein’s Lab at the University of California San Diego. There, he developed analytical tools and methods to investigate human and microbial chemistry. His projects ranged from profiling bacterial extracts to predict evolutionary relationships to creating mass spectrometry-based workflows for characterizing, mapping, and quantifying human skin and microbial metabolites. He also dedicated his research to linking chemicals in bacterial extracts to their genetic capacity to produce such metabolites using mass spectrometry data and advanced bioinformatics platforms.
As CEO and co-founder of Arome Science, Alexey brings his passion for solving systems biology problems through the integration of multi-omics data, such as metabolomics and gene sequencing. His expertise in developing mass spectrometry tools and techniques for large-scale projects aims to uncover links between microbiome metabolomics and human health, driving Arome Science’s innovative approach in the field of analytical chemistry and microbiome research.
