I’m a PhD student in Dr. Aksenov group at UCONN. Our research focuses on metabolomics, which examines small molecule processes in living systems. We take a “global” approach to studying metabolomics in situ, extensively sampling organisms to capture their complex native biochemistry. Mass spectrometry is the predominant technology used in metabolomics. In our research, we couple mass spectrometry with sophisticated data analysis to glean chemical insights from spectral data. A key aim is characterizing the unknown “molecular dark matter” – detecting compounds whose identities remain elusive. Through metabolomics and advanced mass spectrometry, we shed light on this unseen biochemical diversity within living systems.
